It’s not surprising that Kendall Jenner has supremely good taste when it comes to glasses, is it? After all, she is the half-sister of the actual Kardashians. You must know Kourtney, Khloe, Kim and that brother too, whatever he’s called (is it Kenneth or Keith?). On top of that, she’s now gone on to be a model so super-famous she’s only a few Vogue cover shoots away from throwing the gravitational pull of the sun slightly out of whack. That’s all before you even mention her list of A list boyfriends and her catwalking in some of the biggest fashion shows. Kendall, you got it down gal.
To celebrate not only that heart-breaking pout of hers but her equally, heartbreakingly good selection of specs and shades, we spent a little while digging through Kendall’s Insta feed and picked out some of our favourite of her glasses-wearing looks. From festival chic to pyjama princess, Kendall Jenner, you’re officially an eyewear icon. We salute you!
Queen of the Cuppa
Did you know: It’s really, really hard to look super laid back and mega-cool as well as traffic-stoppingly stylish all the while slurping down a big ol’ mug of builders tea. Go on, try it, I dare you. Didn’t work out too well, did it?
But what Kendall’s done here is more than just the degree-perfect raised eyebrow (although it is perfect), or the impossibly achieved balance of scruffy and tidy hair (although that's perfect too), it’s the other, subtler stuff that makes the look. The pink bracelets; the jacket the exact colour as your old geography teacher’s elbow pads; the Tortoiseshell round glasses so far down her nose she can probably smell antique bookshops. All in all, a pretty excellent look.
Those frames that Kendall is absolutely nailing there are none other than the superb Garrett Leight Wilson optical frames in Tokyo Tortoise - Amber Honey. Whether or not it was Kendall who picked up on these frames first or one of her model cronies, these round circulars have since gone on to be an absolute eyewear classic and are firmly one of Garrett Leight’s biggest ever hits. It’s no secret that we love them either. Shop the full range of Wilson sunglasses and opticals right here.
For Real Deal Eyewear Icons™, even kicking back on a Sunday morning with one of your besties is an opportunity to turn up the eyewear heat. Put the kettle on, get last nights Balti out the fridge, and look damn good sinking deep into the sofa. That’s how you do it Kendall!
While the RSPCA might have a couple of questions regarding Kendall’s treatment of that poor defenceless puppy, it’s her PJs and frame combo that’s got us hot under the collar. Laid back and loose, the way Sundays should be, but still undoubtedly bang on the money. Good style just can’t get a day off, can it?
Oversized is an understatement for these Aviator style glasses - and we wholeheartedly approve. In fact, we reckon these might be the very same pair of Garrett Leight Palms that Kendall helped kickstart the whole big frames thing with when she wore them at Paris Fashion Week in 2015. That particular style has since been discontinued, but you can still make an equally big - if not bigger - oversized statement with the Garret Leight Linnie. Go and take a look at them now.
If you’re from the UK like us, something about this shot of Kendall’s 2016 outing to Coachella Festival probably isn’t sitting right. Where’s the mud, for starters? You’re asking. How has no one stolen that massive cowboy hat of hers yet, either? And how is she managing to look so serene after four or five pints of stomach-churningly warm larger? Also, where’s the mud?
Whether it’s because Kendall is indeed an angel and is protected from up high by the worst of festival grub, or because VIP at Coachella is a completely different kettle of fish to that soggy weekend you spent at V Fest, is all beside the point. As far as festival looks go, this is something else. Jet black and brooding with delicate details, all rounded off masterfully with some darked-out round sunnies, it’s the kind of festival attire you were dreaming of wearing while you shivered under your anorak watching Robbie Williams. You killed it Kendall!
Round sunglasses somehow always manage to take an outfit back to the hedonistic hippy-heydays of the 60s, which is probably what makes them such good additions to your festy wardrobe. If you’re on the lookout for some metal-rimmed round frames that are dark where it counts like Kendall’s, take a snoop at these Wilson M Sunglasses from Garrett Leight.
Ahoy there! And welcome aboard the SS Kendall. The Cognac is flowing, the team of deck hands is mainly made up of chiselled and topless rappers, and even the life jackets are stylish and surprisingly flattering. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride...
Don’t let the calm blue waters and sunset fool you, though, it’s Kendall’s selection of oversized accessories that have given this look a properly laid-back feel. Giant hoops, a barely worn boyfriend shirt, and what looks like a triple measure all contribute to the vibe, but it’s those shallow lens sunglasses straight out of the 90s that do all the real hard work. They’re old school, they’re bad-ass, and they’re perfect for doing not very much in while up on top deck.
If you’re planning on even maybe finding yourself in charge of a sea-bound vessel this summer, then you absolutely, positively need to get your hands on an emergency pair of sunglasses. We’ve got boatloads, but if it’s wide and shallow that tickles your fancy like Kendall’s, we’d recommend the Comanche from Jacques Marie Mage.
Never listen to the haters, people. Just because it’s dark and you’re inside doesn’t mean it’s time to slip your sunnies back in your Louis Vuitton. Keep them on, for Christ’s sake! What about the strobes? What about the paps? Plus, they don’t half go good with that updo.
That’s right: take a long, deep swig of some Kendall swag. If you’ve actually managed to get yourself an invite this time, don’t miss your chance to blow some minds. Up your party frock game with cherry-red lipstick and the kind of thick cat eye sunglasses that could make even your Great Aunt Linda look like a bootylicious rockstar.
The go-to since forever for feisty femmes the world over, cat eye frames are about as sexy as sunglasses styles go. Angular and chunky, if you want to emulate this party look of Kendall’s, we’d recommend slipping on some of these Redeemer cat eyes from Dita.
Yeah, we know that’s not Kendall but her fellow model and longtime pal, Bella Hadid in the sunnies on the left, but we couldn’t resist an honourable mention for this look. So 90s she could slip into an NSYNC video unnoticed, it’s a masterclass in bringing a bit of zigazig ah back into the 21st century.
The tracksuit, the cream sports top, and the tight ‘n’ high ponytail are all hella fly, but can you guess what we reckon seals the deal? That’s right, those round sepia-tint shades. Real nice, Bella.
To channel your inner Sporty Spice like Bella, we think you should take a peek at Garrett Leight’s Seville sunglasses.
