Finally, a sequel actually worth waiting for… the JMM Epoxy II collection. If you’re a serious Jacques Marie Mage collector, you’ll probably remember the first Epoxy collection from last year. Well, it’s back—and no, it’s not ‘bigger than ever’ or anything so contrived as that—it’s just a clever continuation of what made the first one so good.
Like the original Epoxy collection, the range takes inspiration from Echizen lacquerware. For over 1,500 years artisans in the Japanese city of Echizen have been crafting bowls, dishes and jewellery boxes using a painstaking process which involves applying tree resin slowly, layer after layer, to create a unique delicate finish.
So what does this mean for the glasses? Well, echoing the handmade finish of a finely-crafted lacquer bowl, the arrowhead inlays have been hand-painted with epoxy, while the deep hues of the frames themselves are a nod to the dark, rich shades common in Japanese lacquerware.
Combine all that with distinct ‘baguette’ patterned wirecore detailing (that’s the silver-plated bit on the temples), and you’ve got some seriously sophisticated shades that are every bit as refined as the craft that inspired them.
And, naturally, they come with a pretty slick collector's box. Each frame is part of a very limited edition run, so be sure to get your hands on a pair to add to your Jacques Marie Mage collection.
