The Seen roster has always been very select—a refined curation of only the very best names in independent eyewear. So when we tell you we're adding a new brand into the mix, and when we say their specs are designed with women in mind, you know we really mean it. That’s definitely the case with Lapima.
Founded in 2016 by Gisela and Gustavo Assis, Lapima is a Brazilian brand which produces beautiful eyewear from their workshop in Sao Paolo. Keeping everything in-house, the craftspeople that make up their small team are true masters of form—transforming Italian acetate into perfectly proportioned glasses.
The word to describe their design approach is probably ‘organic’, with sweeping shapes giving their frames a certain Modernist flavour that’s real easy on the eye. That’s not to say their frames are ‘retro’ by any means—just that they’re blessed with the effortless lines you’d find on a piece of mid-century furniture or maybe a Barbara Hepworth sculpture.
Take a look at the Alice glasses or the Sebastian shades and you’ll see what we’re talking about. Although wildly different in shape, both feature gently contoured angles for added depth—something of a Lapima trademark that means that while their frames might be big, they’re never brash.
Perhaps unsurprisingly for a brand who craft such majestic specs, their designs are often found on the red carpet—worn by the likes of Julia Roberts, Emma Stone, Alicia Silverstone and Cate Blanchett (to name just a few of Lapima’s fairly well-known fans). If you were wondering who made those massive yellow butterfly shades that Andre 3000 has been wearing lately, then here’s your answer…
